Hate is as American As Apple Farms
In other words, immigration itself is not nearly so much the problem as our failure to expect that immigrants will, in fact, become Americans. If someone crawled under barbed wire to escape the hell-hole of North Korea, or, for that matter, the drug wars of Juarez, the real question is not so much did they have a reason to leave? Of course they did. The real question is this: do they have a reason to stay? Do they want to become Americans? No one’s asking anyone to give up their Mariachis or their Vodka or their chop-sticks. We are, however, asking them to embrace, without reservation, values that even native-born Americans are having trouble remembering: hard-work, one language, one law, solid families, and the expectation of justice.
